SCTE'S SOUTH FLORIDA, NEW ENGLAND, AND LIGHTHOUSE CHAPTERS GARNER AWARDS - STEVEN JOHNSON IS CHAPTER MEMBER OF THE YEAR
April 20, 2005 (Exton, PA)- The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) honored three SCTE chapters and one SCTE member with SCTE's annual Chapter Awards recently: South Florida Chapter earned the 2005 Chapter Web Site Award; New England Chapter earned 2005 Large Chapter of the Year; Lighthouse Chapter earned 2005 Small Chapter of the Year; and Steven Johnson earned 2005 Chapter Member of the Year.
The South Florida Chapter (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) earned the Chapter Web Site Award for its informative content, ease of navigation, high-quality graphics, overall design, and success in promoting the chapter's mission. South Florida's website is heavily used by chapter members, and includes a Tech Forum, extensive information on SCTE certification, and an up-to-date chapter meeting schedule. The New England Chapter (Boston, Mass.) earned the Large Chapter of the Year Award for exhibiting excellence in supporting the Society's mission through outstanding educational programs, membership growth, and practical certification support. New England has expanded its reach by taking technical seminars to other areas of New England; increasing vendor show attendance; networking with other cable associations; promoting the industry and recruiting and educating members; and creating the 'Personal Achievement Award'.
The Lighthouse Chapter (Portland, Maine) earned the Small Chapter of the Year Award for increasing vendor day and seminar attendance; hosting an active and informative website offering relevant information to members; partnering with local cable operators to include articles in the operators' newsletters; integrating SCTE certification with Time Warner Cable of Maine's career development program; and reaching out to other areas of Maine to provide professional development opportunities.
Steven Johnson, secretary of the Sooner State Chapter (Oklahoma City, Okla.), received the Chapter Member of the Year Award for his outstanding leadership in and support of the chapter. Johnson has been instrumental in his chapter's success, implementing dual meeting sites and increasing attendance at the chapter's professional development opportunities. Johnson has served on the chapter board for more than nine years, and his dedication is exemplified with every meeting, newsletter, and report that he creates in support of the chapter. He has held several chapter positions, including secretary, vice president, and president. Johnson is technical trainer for Cox Communications in Yukon, Okla., and has been a member of SCTE since 1995.
Award winners were honored at a special dinner in Philadelphia during the annual SCTE Chapter Leadership Conference (CLC), which was held April 14 - 15.
